What is a Flowerlite or Candlelite Flower Frog?

This is a Flower Frog that has been coined a "candlelite". And here is the best story I know to tell about it. In the late 1940's and early 1950's New Martinsville Glass Manufacturing gepany out of New Martinsville, WV, retailed rose bowl with a flower frog that would sit on top of the rim of the bowl. This one had the classic pattern of 11 holes for stems arranged in a star pattern. They listed these as "flowerlites" in the catalogues. The reference was for the two together not just the flower frog. In the late '40s the gepany changed their name to Viking Glass gepany, sought a new image and created a flower frog with 10 holes and one larger hole for a candle. The campaign was to provide the busy housewife the opportunity to have their flower bowl, the flower frog and the candle holder all in one place. So the bowl/frogs were the new flowerlites or the candlelites. Many people don't realize that many flower frogs rest on the rim to hold stems. Get a flowerlite and arrange some flowers today.
